Love Story.

Yes, yesterday was Valentine’s day (Hence the pic of me and the Boo)….And that’s all well and good, but I tend to try and avoid commercialized love. However, I will confess. I bought a card. and maybe some dark chocolate. But, I love the girl, so what’s a guy to do?
The main event of the day, however, was LoveStories. My friend, Luke Dooley (*Note: After posting this link, I realized that this ghost of a blog hasn’t been updated since the mid-80’s, but I’m keeping the link in hopes it inspires some posting action), planned the entire event and did an amazing job, I might add. I have to admit, I don’t know what I was expecting, but wow, what a phenomenal experience! I’ll sum it up as follows: 50-60 people, in a bar, eating/drinking, while 7 people tell their story, live on stage, with no notes. For any Moth listeners, it was pretty much the exact same model. And for those that have not yet heard the Moth, it is a must listen podcast, so get with it.
The theme of the evening: Love in Strange Places.
I told a story, which I had somewhat decided on last week, but procrastinated actually writing/practicing until this week. The experience was great - For anyone considering getting up and sharing a piece of their life story with a room full of strangers/friends, I would highly recommend it. Also, I should point out that what I wrote out and practiced (approximately 50 times to the Mrs. - God love that woman) was absolutely not what ended up coming out on stage. But, I’d like to think the end product was much better than what I had prepared.
All that to say, it definitely got me thinking a lot about the stories our lives inspire. Good, bad, boring. We’ve all got them. I walked away from the experience encouraged to make mine the best possible story imaginable.
Should I have the opportunity to do this again, when I’m 80, my story will dominate.
